Bay Area Architects

It was Gertrude Comfort Morrow (1888-1983) who, along with her husband Irving, designed the towers and selected the color International Orange for San Francisco’s most iconic landmark, the Golden Gate Bridge. She is also credited with designing the first truly modern home in San Francisco, the Cowell House, and the modernist Alameda-Contra Costa County building for the 1939 Golden Gate International Expo.

Where you can find a few of her San Francisco homes:

  • 171 San Marcos Ave (the Cowell House)

  • 70 Santa Monica Way

  • 30 San Leandro Way
